Hypnosis has long been consider a form of sleep, however it’s actually a LONG way from sleep – it’s relaxation combined with focused attention.

A brief history of hypnosis

Different tools and objects were in use in the practice of hypnosis in the early 18th century. But the practice of using magnets came into being in the 15th century when a Swiss medical doctor, Paracelsus, used magnets over his patients’ bodies.

At that time, the concept of evil spirits haunting men and women was prevalent: priests practiced incantations and prayers to get evil sprits exorcised from the patient.

Mesmer, the 17th – 18th century hypnosis practitioner, made extraordinary discoveries and contributions and introduced concepts like animal magnetism, planetary magnetism and cosmic magnetism.

Hypnosis has had a rocky road to general acceptance, only being accepted as a medical therapy a couple of decades ago.
