Hypnosis is a way of controlling your behavior by suggestion. The suggestions are give in a mild trance state in which the hypnotherapist communicates with your subconscious mind.

In the paste decade, hypnosis has become very popular for controlling addictive behaviors, especially overeating and smoking.

Anyone who has tried to quit smoking or lose weight knows that neither is very fun or easy. Quitting smoking and losing weight are very hard to do. They both involve lifestyle changes, which many people find very difficult to handle. People who try to quit smoking and lose weight often are very enthusiastic when they first start but then they begin to lose steam and many give up altogether. That’s why most people who try to quit smoking or lose weight end up failing and going right back to where they were. Hypnosis can help, you just have to want it.

You Have to Want To Change Your Behavior

When many people hear the term, “You have to want it,” they often misunderstand. When you try to quit smoking or you try to lose weight, you obviously want to end up quitting or losing weight, or else you wouldn’t put the effort into it in the first place. However, this want needs to be addressed. Why do you want it? Why is quitting or losing weight important to you? Write these goals down and next to them, write down why you want to achieve that goal. That is your want, that is the source of your determination and it’s that why that is going to get you to your ultimate goal.

When you think of quitting or losing weight, you are thinking of a hurdle that cannot be jumped in one step. It takes a long time, it takes effort and it can often be tedious. That’s why you have to stay focused on why you want to achieve your goal. And it’s only after you’ve addressed this why that hypnosis can help you achieve your goal.

Whether it’s self-hypnosis or it’s hypnosis with a professional, what hypnosis does is it lowers the barrier between your conscious and subconscious mind. When you try to quit smoking or lose weight, you are using your conscious mind. You unconscious mind, however, is what is going to get you to your end result. You have to talk directly to your subconscious mind if you want your conscious mind to follow. That’s what hypnosis does, and that’s why it’s so successful in helping people reach their goals, no matter what they may be.

So, seek out a professional who can administer hypnosis to you or pick up one of the many self hypnosis CD programs. Both can be very instrumental in either helping you quit smoking or lose weight, or both. You just have to want it. So, make your list, find out your why, close your eyes and prepare to reach your goals using hypnosis.

Important: don’t give up too soon. If you find that your first few sessions “don’t work”, give hypnosis a try again, within a month or two. If you’ve been smoking or have put on a lot of weight, it can take several attempts before you succeed.

Using hypnosis to lose weight: eliminate your eating-triggers

Hypnosis can help you to lose weight, and keep it off.

Many people put on weight because they have subconscious triggers which trigger over-eating.

From “Will Hypnotic Sleep Control My Appetite?”:

A. When you pair eating with any other behavior, the other behavior will trigger cravings for food and an urge to eat. This is called a conditioned response. For example, if you eat while you drive, you will automatically get an urge to eat each time you drive your car.

B. When you feel tense, you feel compelled to put something into your mouth for relaxation and pleasure. This is because of programming that you received as an infant. When you got out of sorts, your nanny put a bottle in your mouth. You got distracted, relaxed, and probably fell asleep. Now when you get cranky (anxious or tense), you feel compelled to put something into your mouth for relaxation and pleasure.

C. There is a third subconscious program that is present for some people. It’s called emotional eating. Emotional eating takes place when a hypnotic subject is motivated to make him or herself fat, because by being fat they will protect themselves in some way.

For example, if a hypnotic subject got their heart broken in a relationship, their unconscious can drive them into an action that would prevent them from getting their heart broken again. Example: They are motivated to gain weight to keep them out of another relationship, because that will cast away the possibility of another broken heart.

Hypnosis can remove those triggers for good.
